Chuck Gomez is a New York–based cinematographer, filmmaker, and educator whose work centers on transformation, sustainability, and the lived experience of change. Through his production banner, Roots & Renewal Cine, he captures stories of growth through the lens of environmental responsibility and cultural heritage. Inspired by the Lotus Sutra’s teaching of the simultaneity of cause and effect, his films explore how individual action shapes collective futures — especially in communities committed to eco-conscious living and plastic-free practices.
Gomez came up through the camera department, developing a practice where craft meets care. Working with small crews and motivated light, he creates images that hold space for testimony and lived history. His process is disciplined and consistent: observe real light, plan with intention, test rigorously, shoot with purpose, critique honestly, and revise without ego. Each production treats constraint as an opportunity — not just creatively, but ethically — minimizing environmental impact while honoring people and place.
His projects include the Audience Choice Award–winning Appreciation (2023), Poinciana Sunrise (Slamdance Film Festival selection 2010), and national infrastructure storytelling work through Ready to Build. As a member of IATSE Local 600 and an MFA graduate in Film, Gomez brings both technical rigor and narrative sensitivity to every project.
In addition to his filmmaking practice, he serves as an educator at the Bronx High School of Visual Arts and as an Adjunct Lecturer at SUNY Purchase College, mentoring emerging artists in cinematography, documentary practice, and sustainable production methods.
His work follows people who carry history into the present and move their communities forward — changing poison into medicine, one story at a time.
